Australia’s Employment Landscape: July 2025

Australia’s labour market has proven remarkably resilient, with astonishing levels of jobs growth, but there are signs that the sparkle is coming off. A growing number of indicators suggest that employment growth is weakening and hiring activity is slowing.

The unemployment rate in May was steady at a seasonally adjusted 4.1% after the number of people employed fell by 2,500 in the month.

Other indicators suggest that the pace of private sector jobs activity has noticeably stalled, with most of the growth occurring in the public and non-market sectors.

This report uncovers what’s happening across Australia, examining how the workforce has been impacted, the challenges employers face in the current landscape, and trends in national recruitment activity.

The Power of Radical Candor and Fierce Conversations in Leadership

We would like to introduce our White Paper Issue No. 24:

The Power of Radical Candor and Fierce Conversations in Leadership

Authored by Sarah Yu, Senior Director at PERSOLKELLY Consulting, this paper explores the value of radical candor and fierce conversations as leadership frameworks. It highlights their shared emphasis on direct communication and the challenges of applying them to individuals who prefer more harmonious interaction styles.

The White Paper starts by clarifying the frameworks, radical candor and fierce conversations. Next, it dives into the challenges with certain communication styles before highlighting the common ground between the two frameworks. Following that, it addresses the strategies to overcome challenges and gives a practical toolkit for the implementation. Lastly, the paper provides a call to action for HR, learning and development, and talent management professionals on how they can spark transformative change.
